Alexander Valley is located at the northern end of Sonoma County. The Valley is 22 miles long and varies in width from 2 to 7 miles. World-class Cabernet Sauvignon grapes thrive on the rolling hillsides as well as the valley floor and the region is also home to Rhone varieties, including Syrah and Viognier.
Alexander Valley received formal recognition as an AVA in 1984 and today over 13,000 acres are planted to premium wine grapes.
A visit to Alexander Valley confirms the importance of the Russian River in the life of the Valley. Wattle Creek Winery is bounded by this beautiful river, which supports Chinook salmon and an abundance of birds and other wildlife.
The Williams established Wattle Creek Winery in March, 1994 on the 56 acre estate in Alexander Valley. They harvested in that first year, but subsequently replanted the 32 acre vineyard in 1995, under the guidance of renowned viticulturalist Phil Freese. The 1997 harvest was the first Wattle Creek harvest of Cabernet, Shiraz, Malbec and Viognier.
